Have you ever tried counting sheep when you have trouble sleeping, instead try counting your blessings, and analyse how it helps in your personal growth. That could be the first step in inculcating the quality of positive thoughts. To be optimistic is not smooth as we ideate, it takes considerable efforts from the scratch. It’s not what’s happening to you, what matters most is how you respond to it, count your blessings while others are adding on to their obstacles.
Appreciating what we have in our life is a blessing by itself, because the things we take granted for, someone else could be praying for. We always have the habit of nagging over the things we don’t have even after consistent prayers, but we’re never thankful for the things God gave us, unasked. I believe, everyone one of us should remember how blessed we are, instead of complaining how stressed we are.
You woke up this morning alive and healthy; you have a strong and capable body, you find your pet running to you wagging its tail, you have a strong morning coffee, you have someone in your life you consider your best friend, you love and you’re loved, you’re educated, you have lessons you learnt, you have a job, if not, you have time to figure out what you’re up to, you have experiences to share, you have food on your table, you have memories to cherish, you have family, you have responsibilities to fulfill, you have ambitions that drives you, you have clothes to wear, good hair days, summers and winters, springs and monsoons, you have imagination and creativity, you have talents, you get warm hugs, uncontrollable laughter and happy tears, you have a roof under which you sleep, you have blossoms in your garden, you have an access to the pool of information, you have books and you have emotions. Enjoy all these little things, because they take up the most room in your heart.
Have it as a simple practice, but a daily practice to think of all the good things that have happened to you each day, before going to bed. Value the simple things in your life, think of who has been kind to you, who have forgiven you, who have helped you in need, who made you smile, what have you enjoyed, what have you learnt, what opportunities have shaped your career, what made you happy, what obstacles you have crossed, and how, what inspired you today, and how you inspired someone by your insights, what purpose of your life you served, the amount of progress in your project, and in your personal growth.
The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater their power to harm us !
You breathe, you’re alive, life is good, life is meaningful, God is great, hence be grateful of all the blessings, as a grateful heart is always a magnet of miracles. Focusing on what is good and what is right is the first step towards advancement. You may have too many flaws to be perfect but remember you have too many blessings to be ungrateful.
