The Slumbered Shadows

Wholeness for humans depends on the ability to own their own shadow !

Carl Jung

Don’t be afraid of your shadows, as a reflection of your inner demons the ones that lurk within our souls, the ones with which you are fighting a battle with, it’s a reminder that there is light around you. The darkness inside is an understanding of our unfathomable needs, our echt identity, and the wholeness within anticipating to be restored. As Carl Jung stated, wholeness is not achieved by cutting off a portion, what I felt as the darkness, of one’s being, but by the integration of the contraries. There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd it is, in order to avoid facing their own soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. It is only in the state of complete abandonment and loneliness that we experience the helpful powers of our own nature. The pendulum of the mind alternates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong. What you resist, persists. Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate. There can be no transforming of darkness into light and of apathy into movement without emotions. The unconscious mind sees correctly even when conscious reason is blind and impotent. We never see others, instead we see only aspects of ourselves that fall over them, Shadows, projections and hence our associations. Who looks outside, dreams, but who looks inside, awakens. It is wise to nourish the soul, otherwise you will breed dragons and devils in your heart. To confront a person with his own shadow is to show him his own light. We meet ourselves time and again in a thousand disguises on the path of the life.

All that is gold does not glitter,

Not all those who wander are lost;

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken:

The crown-less again shall be king.

– J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Facing personal truths and purging yourself of addictions or manipulative habits require strength, courage, humility, faith and the other qualities of the soul with stamina, says Caroline Myss, because you are not just changing yourself, you are changing your universe. Your soul is a compass. Change one coordinate in your spiritual compass and you change your entire life’s direction. Hence self awareness is indispensable, both on the bright and the dark side, there are some practical ways to know thyself indeed, like filling out self exploration questionnaires, undertaking authorized personality type and psychometric tests, listening to your self talk, interrogating your instant emotional responses and applying feedback analysis.

The Shadow self is the darkness within your subconscious mind that contains every taboo thought, feeling, desire or personality trait that you have buried, rejected or suppressed. Revel in the wild, crazy, messiness of your life. Find the gift hidden in the chaos. [Loner Wolf]

Spiritual progress is born out of self awareness !

Deborah King

P.S. Inspired by the Shadow Work of Carl Jung, as the privilege of a lifetime is to become what you really are !
